Probiotic specialist TAC acquired by Danone
With 20 years of research behind it, gut health specialist The Akkermansia Company (TAC), part of the VIVES Funds investment portfolio, was recently acquired by Danone.
This acquisition highlights VIVES Partners’ robustinvestment strategy and marks a major milestone for the VIVES Partners startupfund in the successful transformation of research into strategic market value.VIVES Partners, a fund management company supported by UCLouvain andthe Walloon Region via WallonieEntreprendre, manages the VIVES II funds byinvesting into innovative companies, especially ones in their start-up phase.
Since 2016, the year of TAC’s launch, VIVES Partners haspooled together a strong consortium of stakeholders,including €18 million in funding from Seventure Partnersand Innovation Industries in 2018, along with VIVES Fundsand WallonieEntreprendre. This collaboration fed into TAC’ssuccess and growth by optimising the production processand conducting numerous scientific and clinical tests.
