Rudi Willemans Head of department at Colruyt

The choice of Ghislenghien can be explained by its central position in Wallonia and its proximity to Flanders.

A family company founded in 1925, Colruyt now has 222 shops of the same name in Belgium, 70 Okay, 7 Bio-Planet and 52 shops in France. Not forgetting 41 Dreamland shops (toys) in Belgium and France. The Spar and Foodinvest retailers are also under the group’s umbrella. The latter of these has several distribution centres in the country, including two in Wallonia, at Ghislenghien and Pommeroeul.

Rudi Willemans, head of department: «The Ghislenghien centre takes care of the storage and preparation of drinks, of recycling, of sorting empty returned bottles, of bottling the wine and milling the coffee. The choice of Ghislenghien can be explained by its central position in Wallonia, its proximity to Flanders and to our other distribution centres, as well as its accessibility by the E429 and the other Walloon motorways. To this has to be added the availability of land, the subsidies obtained – particularly from Europe – and the availability of qualified personnel». These are advantages which have visibly convinced the group as a third distribution centre is to be opened at Ollignies (Lessines) along with a new production site at Leuze.
