Paul Verleye Logistics Director Benelux at Lyreco

The advantage compared to other countries is that the establishment of a single permit reassures investors.

Lyreco, the largest B2B office equipment distributor in Europe, has brought its Benelux logistics activities together in a 32,000 m² distribution centre at Liège. This family business, founded in Valenciennes in 1926, began to take off at the beginning of the 80’s, in particular thanks to its desire to offer its clients an extremely high service level. With a presence in 27 countries, Lyreco employs 10,000 and turns over 2.2 billion Euros.

Rather than locating their new distribution centre in Flanders or the Netherlands, the Lyreco management decided to opt for Wallonia. First of all, they speak the same language, and the cultures are similar. And while the subsidies offered by the Walloon Region played a part in the decision, the excellent geographical location of Liège for logistics and the proximity of the foreign subcontractors also had an influence. Without forgetting the human aspect, with personnel which is both available and suitably trained.

The open-mindedness of all those involved at a local level was also a determining factor, whether the Walloon Region, the AWEX, the Forem, the Spi or the town of Herstal. Lyreco does not hesitate to express its entire satisfaction when it explains why it chose to locate in Liège!
