Wallonia minister and president Rudy Demotte has just inaugurated work at the site of Colruyt’s future Ath/Lessines distribution centre in the presence of Jef Colruyt, owner of the group, and the minister’s representatives Marcourt and Henry.
’This project is the outcome of the close collaboration of our Wallonia partners’, Jef Colruyt, owner of the group, declared. ‘Colruyt is Hainaut’s largest private-sector employer with 2,500 employees. This new centre will contribute towards Wallonia’s socioeconomic reinvigoration’.
This ultra-modern 30,000m² distribution centre will initially provide storage capacity for 28,000 pallets and should generate no fewer than 350 new jobs.
For Rudy Demotte, Minister and President of Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, ‘The Colruyt Group’s logistics centre is an ambitious economic-development and job-creation project for Wallonia- Picardy’.
This investment, amounting to nearly 79 million euros, has benefited from a subsidy of 15 million euros from Wallonia Region.
Colruyt Group will also be starting work on a Spar Retail distribution centre at Malines in October 2013. This centre will provide employment for 670 people.
