The Minister of the Economy in Wallonia and the Director of AWEx were in Wuhan on Wednesday, October 24th to inaugurate the Agency’s newest branch office. This is the latest advance in Belgian business relations with China, the number one R&D investor for five years.
The Francophile province of Hubei is one of AWEx’s target markets for 2012. In this context, a seminar was held in Mons in February, in an effort to promote synergies with Wallonia and its great strengths. In September, a meeting was held with over a hundred Chinese companies in Mont-Saint-Guibert.
Concretely, the initiative aims to help Walloon companies take their first steps into the growth market that is China (second largest economic power in the world), with the region of Hubei as an anchoring point, from which it is possible to cover the entire territory, particularly through the services of the “Belgium Welcome Office” in Wuhan.
On the other hand, the objective is also to boost the attractiveness of Wallonia as a land of investment, by raising awareness among Chinese investors about the advantages and potential of our region. This will be achieved specifically through the China Welcome Office, based in Mons, in the network of the Parcs scientifiques de Wallonie (SPoW) [Scientific Research Centers of Wallonia].
The establishment of Whibi in Louvain-la-Neuve is another key part of this dynamic effort to establish good relations with the Chinese province, which has also been Wallonia’s sister region since 2011.
