Our capital is the third richest region in the European Union. This is shown in a classification based on GNP per inhabitant, expressed in terms of buying power, produced by the European Statistics Office on the basis of 2009 figures.
In 2009, the regions at the top of the table of regional GNP per inhabitant were Inner London (332% of the average) and the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg (266%). The Brussels region was in third place (223% of the average), followed by Hamburg (188%). Seven capital-regions were among the top ten.
